Each week this summer children ages 3-5 get to explore a different letter of the alphabet and participate in various activities associated with each letter in a new program called Alphabet Adventures! They will read stories related to that letter, talk about the letter sound, and then brainstorm more words that begin with that letter sound. Children are able to make crafts associated with the letter too; for the letter "F" they made flowers.
There is also a “Secret Box” where an object beginning with the letter of the day is hidden and children have to figure out what the object inside is by only using their sense of touch and sound. Nikia Gunn-Abdulai is the museum's Imagination Playground Lead and early childhood expert. As the creator and presenter of Alphabet Adventures, says she created the program to keep learning going through the summer.
“I just don’t want the kids to lose anything in the summertime. I also want to give the younger children a head start on learning.”
