Field Trips

Before Your Field Trip
Designate a Leader
  • The group leader is one teacher or adult who has been designated as your primary contact to the museum during your group’s visit. If your group consists of more than one class, please select one teacher to represent all your classes.
  • All correspondence from the museum should be given to the group leader.
  • Group leader is responsible for notifying all teachers or staff of any changes made to your reservation regarding field trip date or arrival time.
  • Only one group leader should report to Admissions to check in. The remaining teachers, chaperones and children should stay with your greeter. He/she will need to know how many children and adults will pay the group rate and how many children and adults will be using their membership (copy of membership card required).
  • We recommend the group leader bring in a copy of the confirmation letter.
  • The group leader will pay the final balance due at admissions upon check in.

Chaperones

  • Chaperones must be at least 18 years of age.
  • We require one adult for every six school aged children and one adult for every four pre-school age children.
  • Chaperones are responsible for the behavior of the children they are supervising while in the Museum. Please stay with the children in your group.

Museum Etiquette

  • While visiting the museum, good behavior and consideration of others are expected from the children and adults in your group.
  • Children MUST stay with chaperones while in the museum.
  • For safety reasons we ask that you WALK while in the museum.
  • Please use stairs instead of the elevator when possible.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the exhibit areas.
  • No gum is allowed.
  • Respect the exhibits, this is a museum and many visitors would like to get the same enjoyment out of it as your group for many years to come.

Lockers and Coat Racks

  • Lockers are available at a cost of $0.50 per locker per use.
  • Coat racks are available at your risk.

Lunch

  • The Museum does not have food services.
  • A picnic area is available in a first come, first serve capacity.
  • An activity room can be reserved for $25.00 per group. This must be arranged when booking the field trip. Subject to availability.

Name Tags and Clothing

  • Children and chaperones should wear name tags or other identifying clothing.
  • Clothes may get dirty, wet or stained – dress appropriately.
  • Only adults may bring backpacks into the museum. Children should leave backpacks at school or at home.

Parking

  • Loading and unloading of children is on the east side of the building on 20th Street.
  • Buses and small passenger vans should park in the “bus parking” located off of St. Mary’s Avenue.
