October 29 - 31
9 am - 5 pm each day
Learn more about the Day of the Dead during our Family Fun Weekend in October! Activities celebrating the holiday will be held on Oct. 29-31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Day of the Dead, or Día de Muertos, originated in Mexico and is now celebrated throughout Latin America. The holiday combines Aztec and Catholic traditions to celebrate and honor loved ones who have passed. The souls of these loved ones are thought to visit during Dia de Muertos, and families build an ofrenda (altar) with offerings for them.
Activities planned during the Day of the Dead include crafts for children to make tissue paper marigolds, as well as skull and skeleton activities. There will also be a Day of the Dead storytime each day.
Day of the Dead Family Fun Weekend is part of our 2021 Family Date Weekends series, sponsored by Runza.
