Imagination Playground

Imagination takes flight in this spectacular space designed for children ages 0-5. Interactive areas include:

Children’s Hospital & Medical Center

It’s time for a check-up! Visit the Children’s Hospital & Medical Center at Omaha Children’s Museum! Kids learn through play in this kid-sized hospital using tools such as stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, bandages and more. Interactive X-Ray machines allow kids to match the bones in their body and exam tables allow them to role play and learn all about future careers in the medical field.

First National Bank Branch

First National Bank, in collaboration with NEST, Nebraska’s 529 College Savings Plans, opened a new branch at Omaha Children’s Museum! This kid-friendly bank features interactive displays that encourage financial responsibility focused on saving, spending and sharing. Children can role-play as the bank teller or customer as they explore hands-on activities that inspire them to save for their future.

Barn

Pretend play is never more fun than in the two-story barn with interactive elements like a chicken coop and cornfield.

OCM Engine House No. 1

Build gross motor skills in the firehouse climbing structure, experiment with water pressure and pouring at the water table and put on a firefighter uniform before driving the authentic antique fire engine.

Hy-Vee Grocery Store

The Hy-Vee Grocery Store provides children and families a similar experience to what they’d have at their local Hy-Vee store. This exhibit features a Rotella’s Bakery, Hy-Vee Italian, product displays and an interactive fruit and vegetable station where children can learn about the various benefits of produce through sorting activities. This space also features two cashier stations and an ‘outdoor’ grilling area provided by Omaha Steaks.

Little Shoppers are able to:

  • Use their Hy-Vee gas card at the register
  • Shop for local produce, meat, groceries and even dessert
  • Build and decorate your own layer cake
  • Throw on an apron and become a baker at the Rotella’s Bakery
  • Serve up a slice of pizza behind the Hy-Vee Italian Express
  • Light up a giant rainbow by filling it with colorful produce
  • Be a real Hy-Vee worker by getting behind the register and ringing up groceries or stocking the shelves with delicious food

Play Along the Platte River Water Table

This three-level water table is designed to build awareness and appreciation for the state’s waterways and wildlife as well as promote preservation practices, the table imitates a meandering river, with several features including a wetland area, Sandhill cranes, beaver dams and rain clouds.

Tip: Expect your child to get wet splashing around the table. You may want to bring a change of clothes.

Wiggle Room

A special place designed for children developmental ages 0 to 18 months. The Wiggle Room has a padded floor for crawling, mirror wall with rails for pulling up, large soft building blocks, bubble tubes and endless activities that stimulate the minds of the museum’s youngest visitors.

Family Discovery Room

When your family needs a quiet break, step into the Family Discovery Room where you can get away from all the bustling exhibits. When not used for daily programming, this room is open to guests to explore math, science and literacy concepts geared towards a younger audience, in a calmer and more direct manner. There is also a Nurture Room available for nursing moms.
