Museum without Walls

Omaha Children's Museum is engaging outside our walls – within our community!

Children's Hospital Child Life Channel

Omaha Children’s Museum recorded seven educational program performances ranging from Seuss-Sational Science and Dinos on the Loose, to the ever popular Amazing Bubble Show. These programs are currently airing on the Children’s Hospital Child Life Channel. Many of the families visiting Children’s Hospital are unable to visit the museum in person, so we bring the fun and excitement of learning to them! With the potential reach to over 150 rooms throughout the extensive Children’s Hospital network, Omaha Children’s Museum is happy to provide the programming to all of these families.

Partner School Kits

Guests Served: 3,200

Each year, Omaha Children’s Museum is honored to partner with 28 schools. In the past, this has traditionally included offering them an outreach program, a field trip, and a family fun night at the museum. As many schools are unable to participate in the Family Fun Nights, we have created a way to for them to take the fun home with them! STEAM Kits are delivered to each of the participating schools for all students grades preschool through first. These kits included a variety of activities families can do together. Additionally, this has been a wonderful way to get information regarding our Welcome Fund into more hands than ever before.

Virtual Field Trips

Guests Served: 323 and growing

A new option being offered by Omaha Children’s Museum this year are our Virtual Field Trips. These pre-recorded/live hybrid option is quickly becoming a popular option for classrooms who miss being able to join us in person. In the week prior to each Virtual Field Trip, museum educators assemble and deliver kits complete with all the supplies the classrooms will need. Following a pre-recorded energy-exchange game throughout the museum, classrooms are connected to a live science educator who will lead them through 30 minutes of hands-on science experiments. Popular virtual field trips to date have been Weather Wiz, Bug Squad, and Rocks Rock.

Kitchen ABCs

Omaha Children’s Museum has recreated one of our most popular virtual programs in the virtual program. Every week, viewers can join Chef Cheryl as she walks us through a variety of recipes. Necessary ingredients are shared in the days leading up to the program, allowing families to get the needed supplies in advance and cook in real time with Chef Cheryl! This is a great way to whole families to get involved in virtual OCM programming. Guests can find this program by OCM’s YouTube channel. Those who participate in this program gain important math skills through measuring of ingredients, fine motor skills develop through cutting, as well as social/emotional skills as we delve into some history of recipes and the importance of sharing and learning about other cultures.

Virtual Family Fun Weekend Activities

Family Fun Weekends, sponsored by Runza, have returned! January 15th-17th welcomed back these incredibly popular events with our Weekend at Arendelle. Understanding that these events would be popular, leading to sell-out weekends, and that some families were still not prepared to venture to the museum in person, we are including virtual components to each of our Family Fun Weekends. This month, guests could join their favorite characters virtually as they led viewers through some Freezing Cold Science experiments and how to make their very own snowflakes. Look for more virtual programming to accompany these weekends in the month to follow. February 19th-21st: Chase and Skye’s Paw-some Weekend!
