I’ve been a mom for nearly four years now, and we’ve been making family trips to Omaha Children’s Museum for just about as long. In fact, I remember taking my daughter Eleanor on her very first trip to the museum when she was just 6 weeks old.
She slept through the entire afternoon, but we’ve been going back ever since!
No matter what age my two girls have been, we’ve always loved our experiences at Omaha Children’s Museum. The only thing that has changed over time is WHY we go.
When my first daughter was an infant, I was a new stay-at-home mom, and we made trips to the museum for some much-needed social interaction. I’d like to think I went for her, but honestly, meeting other moms was a godsend!
As she grew, we met friends at the museum for play dates, and we ventured out of The Wiggle Room to begin to toddle around the exhibits. When my second daughter, Everly, arrived two years later, the museum was a special place to spend some one-on-one time with big sister. I left the baby for the very first time to take Eleanor to a princess party hosted at OCM.
As I began to get comfortable taking outings with two little ones in tow, the museum was always my first choice for getting the girls out of the house together. We all felt safe and comfortable, and the girls could both burn off a little energy.
As Everly entered toddlerhood, my girls began to bond over their shared experiences at the museum. Eleanor would take Everly by the hand and help her navigate the exhibits.
And now that Eleanor is in preschool, I feel as though I have started my OCM journey all over again by taking little Everly for some special one-on-one time in the mornings.
To totally change things up, this fall my husband and I left the kids at home to have a date night at Haunting with Hogwarts!
In-between all of these milestones, the museum has been a refuge to escape the heat of summer, the cold of winter, and the best way to keep my living room clean while trying to sell my home 😉
No matter WHY we’ve ended up at Omaha Children’s Museum, our trips to play, learn, and explore together have always been a highlight of our week! I’m excited to see what the next year brings!
