S.T.E.A.M. At The Museum

Post by Guest Blogger

This summer, we moved across Nebraska and we’re now about a five-hour drive from the Omaha Children’s Museum. It’s been quite the adjustment finding new STEAM opportunities for the kids now that we’re nowhere close to the big city. The opportunities are here, but it takes a bit of creativity to find them, which can be a bit time consuming.

That’s one of the things I love and already miss about the Omaha Children’s Museum. Having a fun place for the kids to explore and dive into STEAM education without even realizing they are learning.

Here are five of the many STEAM related activities at the museum we are missing and can’t wait to get back to.

S.T.E.A.M. at Omaha Children’s Museum

Science: Hands on Science has never been more fun! The Super Gravitron takes on a child’s natural curiosity and pairs it with some cool science.  Using balls and a variety of mechanical sections, kids can explore hydraulics and pneumatics, along with some other fun surprises.

Technology: Kids who love to get their groove on can take center stage at Moving with Light. They can follow the lights on the stage as they move and change colors, or show off their skills as they twirl and spin with the dancers projected on the adjacent wall.

Engineering: The Tinker Factory is the perfect place for kids to get some hands on engineering experience. With a variety of materials and tools, kids (with the adult they brought along) can use their imagination to create something awesome.

Art: Ever wanted to paint on the walls? At the Omaha Children’s Museum, kids can let their creativity shine as they don a painting smock and bring colorful life to the giant paint window in the Art Smart Center.

Math: One of our favorite stops is the Imagination Playground. Here there are plenty of ways for the kids to explore STEAM activities, including heading to the bank. At the First National Bank in the museum, kids can explore math and money, while learning some financial responsibility.

S.T.E.A.M. Bonus!

Check out the S.T.E.A.M. Cave next time you’re at the Omaha Children’s Museum. It’s filled with STEAM focused activities for the kids.
